game #9: drabble tag
Jun. 10th, 2007 10:51 pmSo, my favorite LJ game is called drabble tag. I'm a little concerned whether it'll work in this community, but I think it's worth a shot, and I encourage you all to participate: it's really fun and the payoff gets bigger the more people play.
Here's how it works: I’ll start this off with a short ficlet. At the end, I’ll have three pairings and prompts. The next person responds to that ficlet with a ficlet of their own that was inspired by one of the prompts – with their own three prompts at the end. Then another person responds to that ficlet with three prompts, and so on. You can also start your own thread if none of the existing prompts are calling to you (but try not to do this a bunch, or no fic will get written!)
Da Rules:
- All Carly fandoms are fair game, as long as a Carly-character is the subject of the drabble.
- However, at least 1 of your 3 prompts must be a Popular prompt.
- Ficlets should be at least 100 words, but no more than 1,000.
- Slash, het, gen, crossover, and RPF prompts are allowed.
- You may post response-ficlets as comments to the request comment, or by starting a new thread.
- Please put the prompt in the subject line.
- There can be more than one response to each prompt.
- Feedback is awesome. Do it a lot.
- Pimp this! Non-comm members can play, too!
- Have fun!

Brooke/Sam, touch
Date: 2007-06-11 03:04 am (UTC)Since her mother left, Brooke had become an excellent cook. There are certain things a woman should know how to do, whether she has someone to teach her or not, and besides—men were helpless. Her father wouldn’t eat if it weren’t for her.
Sam had a mother to teach her this kind of thing, and accordingly, she was a Greek tragedy in the kitchen. Brooke felt it her responsibility to remedy this; there are certain things a woman should know how to do.
Sam huffed a gigantic sigh. “I don’t know why you decided to start with a soufflé, sensei. I’m sure there are hundreds of easier things for a first lesson . . .”
“The soufflé is a metaphor, Sam,” Brooke said. She wasn’t looking at her; her baby blues had been narrowed intensely on her ingredients, her tools, since she started the lecture. “It shows how, when you put forward effort and the right ingredients, you can create something that can grow into something beautiful.”
Sam toyed with a whisk. “And this couldn’t be achieved with cake? Cake grows. Rises. Whatever.”
Brooke frowned and took the whisk from Sam, her fingers tangling momentarily with the brunette’s. Sam, incessantly indolent, didn’t make a move to make the process easier.
Brooke could be cold, but touch was important. There are certain things a woman should know how to do.

Brooke/Sam, sparkle
Date: 2007-06-11 04:13 am (UTC)Sam sighed as she watched the sunlight refract off of the crystal stemware causing it to sparkle. Three hours. They’d been there three hours and from the way the blonde continued to gush over figurines and candleholders they’d be there another three. This was not how the brunette wanted to be spending her Saturday. She could be home reading or at the office working on an article.
“Look Sam, isn’t it gorgeous?” Brooke held the object for inspection.
Sam squinted, trying to figure out what “it” was. She tilted her head, studying it for a moment and then rolled her eyes. “It’s a duck. What the hell do we need with a crystal duck?” She looked over at the display it’d come from and then back at the former cheerleader incredulously. “$500?! $500 for a crystal duck? A crystal duck we don’t need.”
Brooke met her gaze with a determined, patient smile. “Sam, it’s a limited edition Swarovski.”
Hoping to distract the blonde, she took the statue from her hand. “How much longer are we going to be here? When you said that you had a special day planned for us, this wasn’t quite what I’d had in mind,” she said, placing the bird back on its display. She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted.
“I know. That was a mean trick, huh?” Brooke took the brunette’s hands in her own and leaned forward at Sam’s nod. The blonde’s warm breath on her ear caused her to shiver. “I’ll make you a deal. If you will cooperate for a little while longer, I’ll stop by La Perla on the way home and I’ll make sure we have a very special evening.” Brooke placed a small kiss just below her ear before pulling back.
Sam could feel the heat rush to her face, but locked eyes with the blonde and smiled. “I think that seems like a pretty good deal.”
What was three more hours in a store?

Date: 2007-06-11 05:12 am (UTC)How sweet and flirty! Now, for you:
“Give it up, Sammy. You’ve lost and . . . you’ve lost.”
Sam giggled into her beer. “You are delightfully eloquent when you’re drunk.”
Brooke scowled. “Part of the rules of . . . being drunk . . . means that you shouldn’t be able to say words like ‘eloquent.’ You know, when you’re drunk.”
Sam snickered. Brooke’s scowl intensified, until she remembered what they had been arguing about.
“Three of a kind totally beats a straight. I know I’m right.”
“From your years working the tables in Vegas?”
Brooke stuck out her tongue. “No; from all the hours I’ve invested in Celebrity Poker.”
Sam didn’t respond. Brooke grinned. “You’ve lost; you know it. Take off your bra.”
Sam remained silent, her bottom lip beginning to plump into a pout.
“I won it!” Brooke insisted. “I won it; it's mine. That's the rules! So.”
Sam sighed and stood. As she unhooked her bra, she said, “I cannot believe I let you talk me into this.”
Brooke was about to argue, or at least make fun of Sam a little more, but then the pale blue satin of Sam’s bra dropped to the floor, baring the brunette’s lovely breasts, and Brooke entirely forgot how to speak English. Part of the rules of being drunk, or something like that.
